Ralston grabs Balfour Cup glory

ALTRINCHAM player Keith Ralston captured the Balfour Cup, one of the most glittering prizes in Manchester golf, by four shots at Chorlton.

The 10 handicapper fired a nett 64 in the 117th year of the competition which attracted 109 entries for the region’s 19 clubs.

Prestwich’s Dennis Hazlewood was runner-up and three ranked home player James Doodson took the gross prize with 74.

The weather caused the competition to be cancelled at its original venue Swinton Park earlier in the  month and it was unfavourable at Chorlton but the course stood up.

Next year’s event will be at Northenden on May 16 when online booking will be available.
