Look smart R&A and record these aces!

PAT Smart isn’t the only Lancastrian to achieve two holes in one during a round.

The 61-year-old was naturally elated when she aced the sixth and 13th at her club Lytham Green Drive.

And so, indeed, was Tommy Mitchell a decade earlier.

He stunned his fellow members at Chorley by performing the 67-million-to-one feat at the seventh and 16th during a Guildhall Cup match.

According to the excellent 2014 edition Royal and Ancient Golfer’s Handbook, there are only 14 recorded instances of players scoring two holes in one during the same round in the history of the sport.

But those are the only “ones” they knew about.

Despite yours truly reporting the event at the time to the powers-that-be at St Andrews, Tommy is still hoping to see his name print in the “Interesting facts and Unusual Incidents” section of the mighty tome.

I hope Pat won’t be kept waiting as well.
