Didsbury home in on Mersey Shield

DIDSBURY benefited from the added incentive of home advantage when they retained the Mersey Bowl but the outcome was in the balance until the final match as Sale chased them all the way.

SONY DSCThe mixed pairs competition, inaugurated in 1959 as a foursomes but changed to betterball stableford this time, also involved Chorlton, Withington and Northenden with the top six scores pairs from each club counting.

Didsbury led by three points at one stage before Sale drew level thanks to  Mobi and Cath Rawthore.

But the hosts settled the issue when Peter Blair and Brenda Chadwick carded 35 points to leave their opponents two off the pave.
