Lancs lasses lose out to Roses rivals

LANCASHIRE Ladies had to settle for second place behind Yorkshire after a thrilling final day of the week-long Northern Counties Match Week at Gosforth.

The Red Rose bloomed in the first round when they beat host county Northumberland by six points only to succumb 5-4 to neighbours Cheshire the next day.

Hopes were raised when they reversed that margin against Yorkshire  then whitwashed Cumbria 9-0.

But despite edging home 5-4 against Durham in the last round to tie with Cheshire and Yorkshire, the latter claimed the honours on countback.

All three teams had won four matches and lost one out of five but Yorkshire’s final points total of 34 was 3.5 better than Lancashire’s who finished half a point in front of Cheshire.
