Geddes fights back to win Cheshire crown

MARK Geddes overcame a six-shot deficit in the final round to clinch the Cheshire County Strokeplay Championship at Heswall.

The plus three ranked Prenton player led from day one but then was overtaken by Delamere Forest youngster Lewis George in the second round which left his three behind.

Then the county junior champion doubled his advantage going in to the final but Geddes hit a hot streak of birdies to draw level.

The issue outcome settled on the home green where Geddes rolled in a birdie for a course record 65 to prevail by two strokes.

Geddes, who will represent Cheshire in the English County Champions Tournament at Woodhall Spa in September, also added the TDP Taylor Cup to his collection as leading Colt.

George won the Darlington Trophy as the leading qualifier and the Israel Sidebottom Trophy as runner-up, finishing four shots clear of the host club’s Ollie Carr.

County captain David Peel, from Stockport, won the Over-35 dish.

Meanwhile, shot of the tournament was an ace at the 14th in round two by Royal Liverpool’s Tom Heggarty.
