PGA pros offer free lessons at the Open

AS Tiger Woods gets back into the groove at Royal Liverpool following his return from injury, an army of PGA professional coaches will be ensuring the Open Championship goes with a swing for thousands of spectators.

The 138th Open Championship - Round ThreeThe 20-plus strong PGA team will be giving more than 3,000 free lessons at the popular R&A Swing Zone and putting green throughout the week, where they will be on hand to provide golfers of all ages and abilities – from beginners through to single handicappers – with top class tuition.

“The R&A Swing Zone provides a unique opportunity for everyone and anybody to get involved with golf and receive 15 minutes of expert tuition from a PGA coach,” said Sam Carr, regional development officer for The PGA.

“Quality golf coaching provides the foundation for a complete beginner through to an experienced player and should not be overlooked.

“All the PGA coaches at the Swing Zone have a wealth of experience and can cater for all ages and experience levels and everyone is welcome to come along and get a lesson.”

In the build up to the world’s oldest major, The PGA has also been supporting the Road To The Open (RTTO) project aimed at raising awareness of the Championship and promoting the game of golf.

Golf clubs within Lancashire have been running an array of activities ranging from taster group coaching sessions to playing offers. Volunteers have also been working on a Town Tour which aims to deliver a variety of golfing activities throughout the county and expose golf to more than 150,000 people.

The Swing Zone is open from Sunday July 13 through to Sunday July 20.
