The 15-year-old two handicap member at Ashton-under-Lyne led by two strokes after an opening level par 70.

Luke, whose dad Mike is a former scratch player, struggled over the opening nine holes of the second round when he dropped four shots. But the West Hill pupil rallied by completing the home stretch in three-under for a nail biting one shot victory.

Victory earned him selection for the England Schools’ Under-18 team and he will make his debut against Wales at Conwy on August 25.

Luke, a member of the Lancashire Under-16 and 18 squads, attributed his success to working hard on his game last winter and the efforts of county coach Gareth Benson at Astley Driving Range.
