McCormick leads regional chase for England glory

CHESHIRE player James McCormick leads the regional challenge in the English Amateur Championship at Saunton where he repeated his opening round 70 to lie three shots behind half-way leader Ryan Evans, from Wellingborough.

The Styal man double bogeyed the first hole then never looked back as he rolled in four birdies for a two-under-par aggregate.

Hard on his heels, a stroke behind, was Pleasington’s Jonathan Hurst, who also posted 70 which revealed five birdies.

S&A’s Paul Howard, an England player, was on two-over in 35th position, one better than Lancashire team-mate Ian Kenwright, from Haydock Park.

Howard’s clubmate Sean Towndrow was locked on plus four alongside international Paul Kinnear (Formby) and Louis Tomlinson (West Lancs) to easily survive the half-way cut.
