And the Ashton-under-Lyne two handicapper could even afford to record a double bogey at the short 17th.

Four birdies, three on the outward half, kept him in the ascendancy throughout his round as he prevailed by two strokes from Chorley’s newly-crowned Bolton Boys’ champion Jackson Burgess.

He was four ahead of a quartet of players on 74.

Meanwhile, Kelly’s victory represented a notable double after his victory in the English Schools’ Under-16 championship at Leicestershire club Birstall last month.

LEADING SCORES: 68 Luke Kelly (Ashton-under-Lyne); 70 Jackson Burgess (Chorley); 74 Ethan Cambridge (Formby), Joe Flannagan (Nelson), James Holland (S&A), Alex Walker (Rochdale).
