Donaldson in front but Fleetwood’s on his tail

JAMIE Donaldson continued his commanding charge towards a third European Tour title and an automatic qualification spot for The 2014 Ryder Cup as the Macclesfield man maintained his one-shot lead at the halfway point of the inaugural D+D REAL Czech Masters.

The 38 year old, who sits in eighth position in yhe Ryder Cup Points List, entered the second round with a single stroke advantage after a six under par opening round 66 and, having negotiated his first nine holes in one under, he soon put the pedal to the metal.

Birdies at the first (his tenth), third, fourth and sixth moved him four shots clear of the pack momentarily but he would follow that with back to back bogeys at the seventh and eighth to settle for a three under par 69 and a nine under par total, one ahead of Grégory Bourdy.

The Frenchman, who already has four European Tour titles to his name, signed for a five under par 67 to move to eight under for the tournament.

The round of the day came from Southport’s Tommy Fleetwood, who fired a stunning seven under par 65 to establish a new course record at the Albatross Golf Resort and move into a share of third place on seven under, where he was joined by another Ryder Cup hopeful – Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher (67) – and three others.
