England at the double in Canada

ENGLAND have taken the team title at the Canadian International Junior Challenge at Wildfire Golf Club, Ontario, and celebrated a double victory when George Gardner won the individual competition with a final round of 71.

The England team of Gardner (Castle Royle), Oliver Clarke (Formby), Jamie Dick (Forest Hills) and Jack Singh Brar (Remedy Oak) were not troubled by the cold, windy weather on the last day and cruised to a sixteen stroke victory.

It was Gardner’s first overseas trip with England Golf and he led the team in the final round firing a 1-under par (71) round in tough playing conditions taking six birdies from the last eight holes.

“It was a fantastic week and I could not be happier for the boys and the way they handled themselves and the way they played” said Bryan Ross, England Golf team manager. “They played beautifully and to have George capture medallist honours, it could not have been better.

After winning the event five consecutive years before the Canadians took the title last year, the English team regained form to take home their sixth title in the event’s eight year history.

All four of the players finished in the top ten on the individual leaderboard, Singh-Brar finishing third, Dick tied sixth and Clarke ninth.
