Grannell storms to course record

CHALLENGE Tour player Paul Grannell fired a warning shot at the big field competing in this weekend’s PGA North Carus Green Cumbria Open with a blistering course record 10-under-par 61 in the pre-tournament pro-am.

The Cheshire-based professional tamed the newly designed and extended Kendal course with a stunning display of shot-making as he racked up eight birdies and an eagle.

He clearly meant business from the start when he picked up shots at the first two holes, conjured up a hat-trick of birdies from the eighth then completed the last six in minus five.

His closest challengers, three shots back, were PGA North Order of Merit Leader Alex Belt, from Snainton Golf Centre and De Vere, and Welshman Garry Houston.
