Heide Wellman, Southport Golf Academy, took the honours in the girls’ tour 12-14 age section and Heysham’s Curtis Done was head boy in the rookie nine to 11 age group.

They achieved their success at The National Golf Centre, Woodhalll Spa, where the facilities are among the best in Europe.

The event, supported by FootJoy, the #1 Shoe and Glove in Golf, was contested by 32 young golfers, who were among 1,200 youngsters who started out in the competition.

The finalists had all taken part in two official challenge events at their golf clubs earlier in the year and then won through one of four regional finals.

They showed off fantastic skills at putting, chipping, bunker, pitching and long game skills, with some great scores achieved on the challenging set-up on the famous short game academy.

Bev Dodd, the Lancashire County Golf Partnership development officer, said: “These are great achievements by the two local players and their clubs must be extremely proud of the.

The LCGP is all about encouraging people of all ages to take up the game then Heide and Curtis have certainly helped the cause.”

Get into golf is a national campaign to inspire adults to take up the game and is run by the England Golf Partnership through its network of County Golf Partnerships, supported by Sport England and National Lottery funding.
