The event, which sees the club professional and the six top amateurs in singles matchplay action, was the brainchild of the Archie Preston.

Alliance president John Dowd presented a commemorative plaque to the club president Andrew Sciama and lady captain Sue Wrigley, daughter of Archie Preston.

There was some great golf reflecting the quality of the competition from the four clubs who had battled through from an original entry of more than 90 clubs.

Both semi-finals were close affairs with last season’s beaten finalists Bramhall coming out on top over Northenden with wins from Gareth Lover, Mark Richardson, Michael Harrington and Nick Holmes.

The other semi-final saw Bramhall again taken all the way by Dukinfield with wins from Jon Pacey, Ben Levene, Charles Bradley and Andy Bradshaw seeing them home.

In the final Bramhall prevailed by 5-2 over Tytherington who were playing on their first finals day.

Jon Pacey won on the 19th, Ben Levene by 3/2, Charles Bradley and Alex Elliott, both on the 18th with Andy Bradshaw enjoying a more comfortable win by 5/4.

Bramhall  captain Jon Pacey said that last year’s defeat in the final by Leigh had provided the inspiration for this season’s success.
