Sophie bows out of Orange Blossom matchplay

SOPHIE Lamb, the 17-year-old No. 4 seed from Clitheroe, lost by one hole today in the quarter-finals of the Florida Orange Blossom Tour for the Jones-Doherty Challenge Cup matchplay at Coral Ridge in Fort Lauderdale.

Sophie, making only her second trip to America, was beaten by Janie Freedman, the No 12 qualifier.

Sophie’s dad Phil reports: “Sophie was three down at the turn but pulled back to all square before losing the 17th. A halved 18th meant this great experience was all over for this year. We will be back!

“She was naturally disappointed but the signs are positive for a good 2015.”

Young Lamb’s good early-year showing – she had a top-10 finish in last week’s “The Sally” (South Atlantic Ladies Amateur Championship) – suggests she will be a Vagliano Trophy team contender for the June match against the Continent of Europe at Malone Golf Club, Belfast.
