Barber cuts a dash at Romiley

PETER Barber rolled back the years, and rolled in the putts, when he totted up an impressive 40 stableford points in the Manchester Alliance at Romiley.

The former European Tour player and long-serving Didsbury professional, whose score equated to a 66, was four points clear of the field.

It was a case of “many happy returns” for Ben Thomson, the Romiley junior captain in 2010 and Hazel Grove assistant who teamed up with clubmate Roy Campion to clinch the am-am with 41 points.

And former European table tennis champion John Hilton, from Mottram Hall, and Regent Park’s Marcus Corfield won the am-am after a countback on 40 points.
