Wirral Classic attracting a big field

THE Wirral Golf Classic could be setting another record as it celebrates its sixth anniversary.

For more than half the 300 places have already been taken by players from all over the UK with entries also received from France, Holland, Croatia and the USA.

The competition, staged over links courses including the 2014 Open Championship venue Royal Liverpool,  is also attracting more women  who represent a third of the field.

Prizes worth more than £4,000 are up for grabs in the 72-hole stableford on  September 15-19.

Caldy boasts stunning views from its cliffs across the River Dee to Wales; slightly further down the river, Heswall was the venue for the R&A’s Junior Championships in 2006, Wallasey, home of Stableford, and a former Open qualifying venue enjoys beautiful views across the River Mersey to Liverpool, and Royal Liverpool which needs no introduction.

Entry fee is £269, just over half the standard green fees, so the event offers great value.  Up to two friends can play in each four ball and couples have the option of mixed foursomes for one or more games.

Two social events are included in the price – a welcome drinks reception at the Holiday Inn Express and the prize-giving in the magnificent Royal Liverpool clubhouse.
