She teed off in torrential rain at Withnell club Oak Royal and endured a hail storm at Burnley but managed to keep her powder dry with the help of caddie Kim Roberts as she completed the marathon at her home club.

“The weather did improve and the highlight was a birdie three at Rossendale’s 18th,” she said.

Susan, supported by her clubmates and the East Lancashire Ladies’ Golf Association, set an original target of £1,500 towards the running costs of the ambulance service.

“We have raised enough for two emergency missions,” she said as the money poured in.

“It costs the charity £6m a year to operate and maintain their three helicopters and each one takes £3.50 for one minute of fuel. To cover the costs on potentially saving the life of just one East Lancashire golfer will have made the whole event worthwhile.”

North West Air Ambulance is also Pleasington’s charity for the year and you can donate via the website http://www.susancaton.org which links to JustGiving.
