JOSEPH Bannan, a 16-year-old pupil at Cardinal Langley High School in Middleton, has been crowned English Schools’ national champion.

The one handicap member at Manchester Golf Club posted rounds of 72 and 73 for a three-over-par total in testing weather conditions over the tricky Peterborough Milton course in Cambridgeshire.

Joseph, who prevailed by a shot, will represent England in Schools’ Internationals against Wales at Sherwood Forest on  August 24 and Scotland at Kilmarnock (Barassie) on September 14.
