North West lasses picked for Euro championships

LANCASHIRE and Cheshire players are named in the England Golf for next month’s European ladies’ and girls’ championships.

The women’s team is: Gemma Clews, Cheshire, Hayley Davis of Dorset, Alice Hewson of Hertfordshire, Bronte Law of Cheshire, Meghan MacLaren of Northamptonshire and Charlotte Thomas of Singapore. The reserve is India Clyburn of Lincolnshire. The championship will be played at Helsingor Golf Club, Denmark on July 7-11.

The girls’ team is: Emma Allen of Hampshire, Annabel Bailey of Leicestershire, Sammy Fuller of Surrey, Sophie Lamb of Lancashire, Hollie Muse of Lancashire and Lizzie Prior of Surrey. The reserve is Eloise Healey of Lancashire. The championship will be played at Kaskada Golf Club in the Czech Republic on  July 7-11.

Women’s team:

All six players will represent GB&I in the Vagliano Trophy match against the Continent of Europe from June 26-27.

Gemma Clews, 20, (Delamere Forest) has a perfect record of five wins from five international matches played so far this year. She was also in England’s winning team at the 2014 ladies’ Home Internationals.

Hayley Davis, 22, (Ferndown) is the English women’s stroke play champion and topped the individual leaderboard in qualifying for the 2014 European team championship. She is a three-time winner on the US college circuit.

Alice Hewson, 17, (Berkhamsted) was in England’s winning team at the recent international against Spain and also won the Hampshire Rose this season. Last year she  helped England to victory in both the girls’ and ladies’ Home Internationals. (Image © Leaderboard Photography)

Bronte Law, 20, (Bramhall) is third in world amateur rankings and has represented GB&I in two Curtis Cup teams. She is the English women’s amateur champion and won the individual bronze medal at the 2014 Women’s World Amateur Team Championship.

Meghan MacLaren, 21, (Wellingborough) is the reigning British women’s stroke play championship and has also won the Irish stroke play and French U18 titles. Shehas won seven times on the US college circuit

Charlotte Thomas, 22, (Sentosa) played in the 2014 Curtis Cup match and made her debut as an England international in last year’s European ladies’ team championship. She is a winner on the US women’s college circuit.

India Clyburn, 18, (Woodhall Spa) won a host of titles in 2014, including the English girls’ championship and the England Golf girls’ order of merit. She tied fourth in this year’s St Rule Trophy.

Girls’ team

Emma Allen, 18, (Meon Valley) has just won the girls’ title at the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters. She was in England’s winning team at the 2014 Girls’ Home Internationals and helped Hampshire to become County Final champions.

Annabel Bailey, 16, (Kirby Muxloe) was runner-up at the 2014 English girls’ championship and soon after made the cut in the WPGA Challenge on the LET Access Series. She tied 10th in the 2015 Helen Holm Scottish strokeplay.

Sammy Fuller, 16, (Roehampton) returned from injury this season to tie for the Irish U18 stroke play, but lost a title play-off. She has represented England in the girls’ Home Internationals and GB&I in the junior Vagliano.

Sophie Lamb, 17, (Clitheroe) was fourth in the Irish open strokeplay, eighth in the Helen Holm Scottish stroke play and reached the last 16 in the Spanish ladies’ championship. She is a girl international.

Hollie Muse, 15, (West Lancashire) helped England beat Spain in the recent mixed international and this season has won the Scottish U16 championship and The Leveret and was third in the St Rule Trophy.

Lizzie Prior, 17, (Burhill) is a girl international who has won the Fairhaven Trophies and the Critchley Salver this season and was joint runner-up in the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters.

Eloise Healey, 17, (West Lancashire) tied 10th in the Helen Holm Scottish stroke play and has had top four finishes in the Hampshire Rose, the Whittington Trophy and the Delamere Comboy Scratch.
