TOP boy golfers from across Europe will bid for the Reid Trophy at Preston on August 4-5 when  Grady Rogerson, a four handicapper from Royal Lytham and St Annes, will carry Lancashire hopes.

The English boys’ under 14 amateur championship will be contested by 132 players with handicaps as low as scratch. They represent 15 countries and the youngest player is 11-year-old Goncalo Teodoro of Portugal who entered off a handicap of 4.5.

He has previously won the North of England U14 championship and recently became the youngest winner of the Sheffield open amateur – taking the record from Danny Willett.

Among the other English players are Robin Williams, 13, (Peterborough Milton) who has just won the Belgian international U14 boys’ championship where he was four-under par for the 54-hole event.

The championship is played over 54 holes. The field is cut after 36 holes to the leading 70 players and ties. The top six players in the championship will gain automatic exemption to next year’s McGregor Trophy.
