Jackson masters his own course

SCOTT Jackson made the most of local knowledge when he won the HCSS Cheshire & North Wales Masters with a five-under-par 65 at Disley where he is head professional.

And he admitted it was a big advantage being able to pick the right lines off the tee and on the greens.

“But I also played steady and hit most of the fairways,” said 32-year-old Jackson, who was just about recovering from the disappointment of finishing runner-up by a shot to Welshman Garry Houston in last week’s Leeds Cup at Moortown.

He revealed that he was only just getting back to form this season after struggling with arthritis for three years.

“I had a lot of pain in the elbows and knees but a change of medication appears to have sorted out the problem,” he said.

Jackson’s flawless figures revealed three birdies and an eagle at the 305-yards 16th where he chipped in from just off the green.

Rochdale-based Jonathan Cheetham finished joint runner-up two off the pace with Mossock Hall’s David Shacklady as Houston tied third on 68 alongside Ian Ridgway, who recently moved to the host club.

LEADING SCORES:65 Scott Jackson (Disley); 67 Jonathan Cheetham (1836tour.com), David Shacklady (Mossock Hall); 68 Garry Houston (Carden Park), Ian Ridgway (Disley); 69 John Barclay (Myerscough College), Ryan O’Neill (Penwortham).
