Lancs keep in the driving seat

LANCASHIRE continued their impressive run of form when they defeated Cumbria 11-7 in the Daily Telegraph Northern Counties League at Ormskirk.

Three days earlier they qualified for the English Finals after a narrow victory in the Big Six at Isle of Man club Mount Murray which kept them on course for the grand slam.

As expected, Cumbria were no push-overs and trailed by only one point after the foursomes.

They then held the ascendancy after winning two of the opening three singles before Lancashire stepped up a gear and claimed seven of the remaining nine matches.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire overcame Northumberland 12-6 at Cleveland to share the top of the table with their Roses rivals.

Lancashire travel to Wilmslow to face Cheshire in the final match on August 29 when Yorkshire travel Stocksfield to take on bottom side Durham.
