Head boys battle for glory

ENGLAND’S Bradley Moore lead the qualifiers in the  Boys’ Amateur Championship at Royal Birkdale and Southport & Ainsdale going into today’s matchplay stages.

And Lancashire County player Oliver Clarke, from Hillside, and Sandiway’s Rhys Nevin-Wharton are also in the mix.

Moore, 17, and from Kedleston Park followed up an opening seven-under-par 65 at Southport & Ainsdale with a one-over 72 at Royal Birkdale.

The England boys’ international wasthree shots clear of Scots Calum Fyfe and Murray Naysmith and Denmark’s Christoffer Bring.

Moore, who just missed  on a top 20 finish at last week’s European Amateur Championship in Slovakia, got off to an eventful start at Royal Birkdale with a birdie on the 2nd cancelling out a dropped shot at the first before a double-bogey at the third looked as if it could prove costly.
