Horsey stays ahead in Denmark

DAVID Horsey will take a three shot lead into the weekend at Made in Denmark after a four under par 67 on another brilliant day at Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort.

In front of crowds of nearly 20,000, the Manchester man  cruised to 12 under par for the tournament, breaking away from compatriot John Parry (67) and Australian Richard Green (65) with an eagle, five birdies and three bogeys.

Home favourites Thomas Bjørn and Søren Kjeldsen are four and five under respectively, while Ryder Cup Captain Darren Clarke is three under, but Andreas Hartø stole the headlines despite missing the halfway cut on home soil.

The 27 year old stiffed his tee shot on the now famous par three 16th hole, rolled in the putt from a few feet for birdie, then went down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend, who was in the crowd, sending the thousands of spectators into raptures.

Horsey said: “I had a good holiday last week, which is always nice mid-season. You get a little bit burnt out sometimes and I was getting frustrated with it, so it was nice to put the clubs away for a week and get away and forget about golf. It seems to have done the job. You’ve got to enjoy being in this position – you’re not going to turn down leading a golf tournament heading into the weekend.”
