It’s tight at top in Manchester Open

THERE’S all to play for in the Manchester Open at Marriott Worsley Park with 12 players within two shots off the lead.

That’s been set by Pike Fold’s Grant Hamerton who posted a three-under-par 69 matched by Yorkshire-based John Wells from Snainton and Abergele’s Stuart Runcie.

And it was Hamerton who finished his round in style by birdying the last four holes.

Hoping to overtake him in tomorrow’s final round is a formidable group of seasoned professionals including the irrepressible Simon Edwards, from Windermere,  and Matthew Tottey, from North Wales, who won the first of the five Order of Merit tournaments, the PGA North Region Championship, at Carus Green in May.

LEADERS: 68 Grant Hamerton (Pike Fold), John Wells (Snainton), Stuart Runcie (Abergele); 69 Ben Brierley (Denbigh), Simon Edwards (Windermere), Matthew Tottey (North Wales), Robert  Calderbank (Loxley DR), M Edge (Hesketh).
