Nefyn rings in the new – and old!

IT’S nearly 30 years since Nefyn Golf Club, one of the most spectacular courses in Wales sited on the rugged coastline of the Llyn Peninsula, hosted a pro-am.

NefynOn that occasion it was won by Ian Woosnam but since then part of the links has recently been redesigned to incorporate a unique 27-hole lay-out offering a choice of playing the Old and New holes.

And the figure 27 will loom large on June 10 when the same number of teams, playing the same number of holes, will join forces with PGA North professionals for the club’s resurrected pro-am.

“Most of the people who supported our hugely successful corporate day last year to celebrate the new lay-out are likely to play so we’re hoping for a full field,” said John Froom who is in his 24th season as club pro.

Graham Maly, secretary of PGA North who are administering the event, commented: “We will be breaking new ground for this fixture and our professionals will be looking forward to the challenge.”
