Wirral clubs on the ball for FootGolf

TWO more Wirral golf venues will welcome FootGolfers after a strong public response to the opening of the borough’s first course.

3.-Arrowe-Park-launch-eventThe Warren, Wallasey and King’s Parade, New Brighton will offer both golf and FootGolf, after more than 2,000 people played in just six weeks at Arrowe Park’s converted pitch and putt course.

King’s Parade opened for FootGolf on Saturday My 21 at 12 noon, with the Warren opening on Saturday May 28 at 2pm.

The Warren will be available for FootGolf from 2pm to 5pm from Saturday to Tuesday, with the final kick off beginning at 5pm. It will remain a traditional golf course at other times, and will offer a tough challenge for footgolfers with long holes and bunkers.

King’s Parade is be open daily from 10am to 7pm, with the last round starting at 6pm.

Neil Price, Wirral Council’s Community Golf Coach said: ‘FootGolf has proved to be really successful. The Warren will be our first full-length FootGolf course. It will be 18 holes, and over 2,000 yards.

‘It will also be the first location where we will be mixing golf and FootGolf on the same course.

‘We’ve already seen over 2,000 people playing the course at Arrowe Park, including children’s parties. We’re now hopeful of repeating that success at two other courses, with a particularly challenging course at the Warren.’

Keith Lewis, Secretary of the Warren Golf Club says: ‘Obviously a few of the members were slightly concerned at first, but we’re welcoming the opportunity. It gives us the potential to access new members, particularly young members.

‘This is an investment from Wirral Council, and we’d like to see the course being improved and we want to continue to work in partnership with the council.’

FootGolf players attempt to complete 9 or 18 holes of a golf course in as few shots as possible, with larger holes to accommodate footballs. FootGolf holes are shorter than traditional golf holes, at only around 100 yards long.

New mats and tee markers are being fitted along with the larger FootGolf holes, which will sit alongside traditional golf holes so that the sports can be played together.
