Joanne leads way to England’s grand final

CHESHIRE’S golfer Joanne Beech led 10 qualifiers into the England Golf Grand Medal Final to find the country’s champion woman medal player. Joanne, of Runcorn Golf Club, won the North Region final at Lancaster with a net score of level par 75.

The other players who won places in the Grand Medal Final are: Susan Caton (Pleasington);  Veronica Whitehill (Crow Nest Park); Toni-Louise Naylor (Waterton Park); Linda Baxter (Fairhaven);  Naomi Brennan (Seascale); Kate Anne Herron (Bedlingtonshire); Susan Matchett (Selby); Kathryn Watkin (Castle Eden); Kath Findlay  (Rossendale).

All the regional finalists had returned the best four scores at their club in the England GolfMedals during 2015.

The successful 10 players will meet qualifiers from five other regional finals at the Grand Medal Final at Frilford Heath in Oxfordshire on  August 13.

The Grand Final will be a feature of Golf Week, staged by England Golf to create a national grand finale for a host of handicap and team championships.

 

Jason’s joy after first hole albatross

JASON Dransfield has enjoyed many memorable moments in his professional career but an albatross at the 501-yard opening hole at High Legh Park in the PGA North Assistants’ Championship of Cheshire will take some beating.

It’s Catherine the great!
