On-fire Hodkinson blitzes Warrington record

ADAM Hodkinson continued his blistering start to the season when he scorched to a course record 11-under-par 71 in an 1836 Tour event at Warrington.

“That was 13-under a few years ago, which was also a record, and I took the money,” he recalled.

This time the stakes were higher as he picked up £450, winning by two strokes from Wilpshire’s Joey Lamb during a day of low scoring.

Hodkinson (pictured right), who is hoping his run of form will continue in the PGA North Region Championship at Carus Green next week, rolled in nine birdies and eagle at the par four seventh where he chipped in from a few yards short of the green.

“I was solid all day,” he said. “But I couldn’t believe I’d only won by two shots!”

The former England boy international and Yorkshire County player makes no secret of his ambition to play on the European Tour.

“I was a winner on the Alps Tour but gave up the game for three years after breaking my wrist.

“I worked as a builder for a time but my dad encouraged me to join the PGA and I moved to Chorlton where I was given the opportunity to coach,” he explained.

“I’m hoping to go to Tour School this year.”
