Mersey Shield glory for Didsbury high scorers


GLORY BOYS: Didsbury players celebrate their victory

DIDSBURY homed in on the Mersey Shield after achieving the second highest total in the long-running event.

Led by Lee Pierce and Kevin Pringle with an impressive haul of 48 points , the team posted a total of 269 points to finish well clear of Sale 254, Chorlton 250 and Northenden and Withington, both 240.

Other Didsbury scorers were Nick Sutton and Rob Anderson 45, Geoff and Nigel Massey, Keith Thompson and Paul Slevin and Ian Swindells and Rob Caruana, all 44. and Ian Bailey and Bert Richardson 43.

More than 200 players fought a day-long battle with the top six scores in the better-ball stableford.
