Waddell delivers two knock-out blows

ALISTAIR Waddell claimed two prized scalps on his way to winning the Manchester Alliance Scratch Knock-out at Ashton-on-Mersey.

First the Styal man overcame former winner Graham Cox, from Lymm, 4&3 theallikoawaddellteeoff.jpgn eclipsed former European Tour player Phil Archer 2&1 in the final. Earlier, Birchwood’s Archer dispatched Chorley assistant Andy Palmer 4&2

The assistants’ competition produced an early upset when reigning champion Adam Hodkinson (Chorlton) beaten 5&4 by Rob Batchelor (Stand).

In the other semi Jamie Howarth (Davenport) showed his EuroPro and Challenge Tour experience as he overcame the local knowledge of home assistant Ollie Smith by 3&2.

Howarth then claimed the title by beating Batchelor
2&1.

Meanwhile, Bill Harris won the alliance’s Senior Championship at his home club Cheadle, his nett 63 allisens.jpgthree better than runner-up Dave Allcock, of Mellor and Townscliffe. Gross prize winner was Ashton-on-Mersey’s Gordon Hamlett returned 74.  The winners are pictured with with Cheadle captain and sponsor Don Milligan.
