Cheshire joy but Lancs lose after spirited fightback

CHESHIRE atoned for their three points defeat by Yorkshire at Ganton in their opening Daily Telegraph Northern Counties League when they overcame Durham 12-6 at Wilmslow.

They laid the foundations with an impressive 5-1 foursome victory and maintained the momentum by claiming seven of the 12 singles, thanks to impressive performances all round, particularly by in-form Cameron Massie and Sam Turner.

Lancashire, meanwhile, failed to capitalise on home advantage when they lost by a point to Cumbria at Manchester.

They gained only one win and a half from the foursomes but despite a spirited fight-back in the singles they pulled up a point short.

Meanwhile, the Red Rose men they face another tough encounter against Cheshire at Bramall Park on July 8.
