Doherty leads the way at Caldy

CIARAN Doherty has already set his sights on retaining the Galvin Green Northern Order of Merit crown he won last year for the second time when he topped the field in the Caldy Quart.

The Bury man (pictured) produced rounds of 73 and 70 to edge out Heswall’s Jonathan Little,

In tough, windy conditions they were the only players to finish on one-under-par.

Hillside’s Richard Blundell claimed third place with 74 and 71 while the lowest single round of the day was 69 by Tenby’s Dave Morris and Mere’s Jack Brooks.

The action moves to Hesketh on Sunday for the Henriques Trophy.
