Kelly gets his eye in

LUKE Kelly was top of the shots in the Galvin Green Northern Order of Merit fixture at Manchester.

But it was a close call for the Ashton-under-Lyne player who got the verdict on countback from Manchester’s Aiden Hoosen to claim the Hulbert Trophy.

Kelly opened with a three-under-par 69 and followed up with 70 which included a trio of birdies from the seventh,

Nelson’s Curtis Clarkin maintained his 55 points lead from the chasing pack.

Hibbert makes his mark

DELAMERE Forest’s Jake Hibbert chalked up his maiden win in the the Galvin Green Northern Order of Merit with rounds of 70 and 72 for a two-under-par total to claim the Eaton Talbot.

Joseph Williams, from Heswall, and Hibbert’s clubmate Gregory Osbourne, were two strokes off the pace.

Meanwhile, Nelson’s Curtis Clarkin maintained his 55 points lead from the chasing pack.

Metcalfe takes five

CALUM Metcalfe reeled off five birdies on the home stretch in a first round three-under-par 68 on his way to winning the Calvert Trophy at Ashton & Lea.

The Pleasington one handicapper followed up with 71 to finish three strokes ahead of a trio of players lead by the host club Liam Jenkinson.

In the same group was Nelson’s Curtis Clarkin who took over pole position in the Galvin Green Northern Order of Merit, 55 points ahead of previous leader Oliver Ravenscroft from Hillside.

No doubting Thomas at Wallasey!

 ROYAL Liverpool’s Martin Thomas racked up 76 points to win the Frank Stableford Trophy at Wallasey, producing an impressive six birdies in his opening round 40.

A point adrift were Wychwood Park’s Benjamin Hallam and Steven Capper, also from Royal Liverpool.

Hillside’s Oliver Ravenscroft retained his lead at the top of the Galvin Green Northern Order of Merit as Capper closed the gap to 15 points.

Kenwright bowls them over

HAYDOCK Park’s Ian Kenwright, who won the Lancashire County Championship in 2015, proved he still had the winning touch when he claimed the Southport & Ainsdale Bowl.

But it was a close call as he posted scores of 75 and 71 to prevail on countback from three chasing players.

Among them was Hillside’s Oliver Ravenscroft who leapfrogged to the top of the in the Galvin Green Northern Order of Merit fixture table, 20 points ahead of Bury’s Ciaran Doherty and Curtis Clarkin, from Nelson.

And it was double delight for Ravenscroft who won the Lancashire Links Trophy.

THERE was no change at the top of the Galvin Green Northern Order of Merit following the Formby Hare with joint pace setters Ciaran Doherty, from Bury, and Nelson’s Curtis Clarkin 40 points ahead of the chasing pack.

Hillside’s Oliver Ravenscroft moved into third spot as he posted rounds of 72 and 70, edging out Royal Birkdale’s Matthew Nuttall by a stroke.

But there could be some changes in the pecking order after the Southport & Ainsdale Bowl after a double-header weekend.

Collinge in seventh heaven

MATT Collinge swept to a five stroke victory in the Henriques Trophy at Hesketh with rounds of 67 and 70 for an impressive seven-under-par total.

The Greenmount one handicapper left host club player Bryan Hughes trailing in his wake as Leasowe’s Stephen Hargreaves claimed third place, seven shots off the pace alongside Morecambe’s Tom Winn.

Meanwhile, Nelson’s Curtis Clarkin drew level with Bury ace Ciaran Doherty at the top of the order of merit after four events.

There’s a double header this weekend. First up is the Formby Hare followed by theSouthport & Ainsdale Bowl, both qualifying for world ranking points.
